Do you see His signs?

When I see the rainbow in the clouds, I will remember the eternal covenant between God and every living creature on earth.” Then God said to Noah, “Yes, this rainbow is the sign of the covenant I am confirming with all the creatures on earth.”
Genesis 9:16-17 (NLT)

I needed a sign this morning. I needed a reminder that God was there with me. I scanned the cloudy sky with the hopes of seeing that beautiful bow in the sky that He has faithfully used over the years to remind me that I am not alone in whatever predicament I am currently facing. It never appeared but He used many other signs that morning to calm my heart and give me peace that only He can give.

What are the signs He uses in your life?

Are you even aware that He uses them to show you He is near and sees you?

Are you too busy to see them?

A personalized touch

In a recent conversation, a dear friend shared about the recent signs in her life that caused her to consider that God sees her. Each time she experienced a personalized touch from God. What took place were occurrences which were uniquely connected to her thoughts and desires that only God could know. We talked about how God has a great sense of humor when it comes to how He likes to show up and show off in our lives in ways that really make us laugh in disbelief and ask “Did that really just happen?”.

That is exactly who God is! He is not a mystical presence in the atmosphere that you can’t experience. We can treat Him like He is but the reality is that He is a very real living personal Being who yearns for us to know Him and experience life with Him. All this became possible through the person of Jesus Christ.

No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.
John 1:18 (NIV)

Evidence of eternal life

Jesus did not come to save us for just a relationship with God in heaven when we die. He has afforded us the opportunity to start that relationship with God right here and now on earth. We can experience heaven, that is life with God, right now while we live in these bodies on earth. Eternal life does not start when we die. It starts when we say yes to Jesus as the bridge who connects us to God. Eternal life is not about what is to come after we pass from this earth, it is about the life connected to God through Jesus Christ as stated below in John 17:3:

And this is eternal life, that they know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.

So if we are connected to God by way of Jesus Christ here on earth, we can live in expectation of knowing God, seeing His hand in our lives and hearing His voice. And God being God, will show up in ways that will blow our mind! There will be signs that He sees us and knows us so intimately that He has insight greater than us of our own deepest desires.

With this in mind…

  • Can you identify His signs in your life?
  •  Are you aware that He is constantly revealing how well He knows you?
  • Are you too busy to see the evidence that He is very much present in your life?
  • What changes in your life will you make to ensure you see more of His Presence?

The following excerpt from Oswald Chambers’ My Utmost For His Highest speaks about this acquired habit of seeing God’s hand in our lives in the big ways as well as in small inconsequential things:

By the way, that rainbow that I longed to see in the morning appeared as I made my way home after work and it was the brightest rainbow I had ever seen! It was as if God was saying to me, “You thought I didn’t hear you but just to let you know that I did hear you, let me give you the brightest rainbow ever!”

His signs are there. It’s just up to us to take the time to see them.
