Then he asked them, “But who do you say I am?” Peter replied, “You are the Messiah sent from God!” (Luke 9:20 NLT)
“But who do you say I am?” If Jesus was standing before you today with the same question, how would you answer it?
As we find ourselves at the pinnacle of the Holy Week, we might say that Jesus is our Savior, our Rescuer who “took up our pain and bore our suffering… was pierced for our transgressions and crushed for our iniquities… by his wounds we are healed.” (Isaiah 53:4-5 NIV)
Peter’s answer reflected where they were in time; Jesus was the Messiah, the Chosen One, the Anointed One, the One prophesied “to proclaim the good news to the poor… to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom… release from darkness…” (Isaiah 61:1 NIV) He was not the Savior yet.
But as we go about our individual life journeys, there are other names, words, phrases we can use to describe Jesus. They are names, words, phrases that come from a place of intimacy with Him. They reflect who He has been and still is for us during the seasons of our lives.
Recently CeCe Winans released a song about one of the names used to refer to Jesus: King. She indicates an intimate and personal relationship with Jesus in the title of the song, That’s My King. Her song includes a variety of other names, words and phrases that could be used to answer Jesus’ question: But who do you say I am?
Below is the official lyric video of CeCe Winans’ song That’s My King. This version will allow you to view the various names, words and phrases one could use to answer our question at hand. I encourage you to take a listen and then consider Jesus’ question for yourself: “But who do you say I am?”
One response to “Who Do You Say Jesus Is?”
